President Robert Mugabe snubbed Bulawayo prominent business Tafi Moyo who died on Monday after his party failed to grant him national hero status.

Moyo funded activities of of liberation fighters before Independence and got arrested for giving Joshua Nkomo money to travel to Britain at the height of the liberation struggle.

There was much expectation that Zanu PF would grant Moyo hero status but the businessman was today buried at Bulawayo's Lady Stanley Cemetery.

Bulawayo Provincial Affairs minister Eunice Sandi Moyo told mourners at the burial that Moyo wasn't conferred with hero status as Mugabe was yet to appoint a  politburo at the time of the businessman's death.

She said the government had instead resolved to give Moyo a state assisted burial.

Mourners were however not convinced arguing that Mugabe could have made the decision in the absence of the politburo.

Mugabe who attended one of Moyo's birthday celebrations neither attended the burial nor sent a condolence message.
