The much awaited judgement day for Pritchard Zimondi who is facing charges of fatally stabbing his girlfriend Monalissa Chinomona two years ago has been set for this Thursday.

Speaking to The Zimbabwe Mail yesterday, Zimondi's lawyer, Norman Mugiya of Mugiya and Macharaga Law Chambers said the presiding judge, Hlekani Mwaira was now ready with the judgement.

"I can confirm that Justice Mwaira is now ready with the judgement which had taken so long. From my own understanding, the judge had been transferred from the High Court criminal department to the civil one hence she had a backlog of cases. We have been informed that she is now ready to come from her vacation and hand over judgement to my client," said Mugiya.

Justice Mwaira was supposed to pass judgement on the murder case in May but, however, postponed it indefinitely.

According to the state, it is alleged that on the fateful day in April 2012, in Chitungwiza, Zimondi went to Chinomona's place and found her alone in the bedroom.

The court heard that Zimondi entered the house unnoticed, headed for the kitchen and armed himself with a kitchen knife, which he used to allegedly  stab Chinomona on the left breast.

After the act, Zimondi allegedly left the knife stuck on the deceased's breast and fled. He was later caught in Harare, it is alleged.

The court heard Monalisa was later discovered dead by his brother Tanyaradzwa, with several wounds and the knife stuck on her breast.

Tanyaradzwa reported the matter to the police, leading to Zimondi's arrest.

He was found in possession of Monalisa's pants and bra, the court heard.

According to post-mortem results, Monalisa died as a result of shock caused by a perforated lung and heart stab wounds.

A number of witnesses including Zimondi and Chinomona's relatives testified in the murder case which lasted over two years.

Zimondi is currently at Harare Remand Prison.
