Scores of job-seekers turned out at different Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZCS) offices in response to a hoax advertisement on social networking platform whatsapp.

It sounds like an April fool's day joke which came rather too early and in bad taste, but some job-seekers came from as far as Gokwe, Masvingo and Chivhu.

In response to a hoax advert circulated on the social networking platform whatsapp, the prospective job-seekers were hoping they would get a chance to join the ZPCS.

The thought of incurring unnecessary costs and the inconvenience left many of the young job-seekers bitter.

"Zvimwe zvinhu zvinopedza power [Some things just leave one dejected]," said one job-seeker from Chivhu.

"I don't know what to do next," said the other.

ZPCS however said the organisation never called for such a recruitment exercise, adding that when they advertise jobs they use the mainstream media.

Such is the impact of the new information communication technologies in a split of a second, but it becomes bitter to swallow especially when it turns out to be such a big instrument of mass inconvenience.
