Harare Province war veterans have commenced an exercise to vet members who were left out in the previous exercise conducted in 1997.

The leadership of war veterans in the province say the exercise commenced yesterday and is meant to ensure that bogus war veterans are flushed out, while those who genuinely participated in the liberation struggle benefit from the war veterans fund.

A representative of the war veterans, Cde Isaac Gore said emphasised that those coming in for vetting must provide witnesses to prove their liberation war credentials.

Everyone who participated in the liberation struggle as defined under the War Veterans Act has a right to benefit from the War Veterans Fund.

Figures of how many were vetted successfully in 1997 were not immediately available.
