Doctors demand apology from Chimedza

The Zimbabwe Hospital Doctors' Association yesterday demanded that Health and Child Care deputy minister Paul Chimedza apologise for calling them gobblers and smokers after exposing that their bosses were threatening to cut their salaries.
This also follows Chimedza's recent utterances that he strongly supported the position that the government would dock $100 off doctors' salaries from current meagre basic salaries of $283 following the three week strike by doctors last month.
ZHDA yesterday stated doctors had received with great disappointment, shock and disbelief these recently publicised utterances.
Doctors said it was disheartening for the deputy minister to say such words especially when they had made a monumental and painful compromise to return to work as they await implementation of revised call allowances with effect from January.
ZHDA also described this proposed move as highly insensitive, absurd and an affront to the provision of quality healthcare to Zimbabweans.
