Five families have since been relocated from ZIMTA area of Chikanga following a heavy down pour which occurred on Wednesday night in which a 6-year-old child died while more than 150 houses were affected.
While many farmers have welcomed the rains, they have however brought sorrow to the Matsika family who lost a son, Thembani, who had come for holiday from Marange.
Neighbours who came to the rescue of Christine Matsika after having been washed away by the floods said the water levels had reached alarming levels due to lack of proper drainage system in the entire suburb.
Other residents are also counting their costs after the rains left a trail of destruction in ZIMTA surbub and the place is still engulfed in fear as no solution has yet been found.
The heavy rains affected more than 150 housing units in Dream House and ZIMTA area, and two of the Matsika sisters; Midlred and Christine escaped from the floods after their cottage was swept away.
Thembani's body was recovered on the banks of Sakubva river early Thursday morning.
Meanwhile, the Manicaland Provincial Civil Protection Unit has been activated with the Zimbabwe Red Cross coming to the rescue of the relocated families housed temporarily at Murahwa Primary School by donating blankets and cooking utensils.
