Farmers optimistic of good harvest

Farmers hope that the outcome of the summer cropping season will be positive given the good rains that are falling in most parts.

The summer cropping season is about midway and to date the rains have been ranging between normal and above normal.

Most farmers took advantage of the holidays to work in their fields so that they maximise yields.

Farmers Mrs Margaret Zvinavashe and Mr Charles Nyachowe expressed optimism that if the rains remain consistent they will be able to surpass last year's maize yield.

Others however bemoaned the late distribution of inputs saying it would affect small holder farmers.

Farmers unions are anticipating at least 1.8 million metric tonnes of maize, surpassing last year's 1.4 million metric tonnes.
