47 people die in road accidents

47 people have died in road accidents countrywide from the 15th of December to date.
Human error continues to claim lives on the country's roads as more than 34 accidents have been caused by speeding, use of defective vehicles and overtaking.
Police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi said curbing accidents requires the participation of every road user.
Masvingo province has recorded the highest number of accidents with 14 people killed so far followed by Matabeleland South province which has claimed 8 lives while Midlands province recorded 5 deaths.
Four people died in Harare while three others died in Bulawayo in road accidents.
Mashonaland Central province has the least number with one person killed.
The police have increased their operations which have seen more than 1 600 vehicles being impounded for various offences.
This year there has been a significant increase in the number of road accidents with 718 road accidents recorded compared to 599 accidents recorded during the same period last year.
Close to 400 people have been injured while 264 others were injured during the same period last year.
