Festive season death toll rises to 74

74 people have been killed during this festive season up from 64 people killed during the same period last year.
This year continues to top in the number of people killed in road accidents.
An analysis of the road accidents by the ZBC News indicates that most people are killed on Christmas Eve as many will be travelling to various destinations to enjoy the holidays with their loved ones.
This year 17 people died on the 24th of December while 9 people were killed last year.
According to police statistics, fewer accidents occur on Christmas Day and this year 10 people died up from 8 people last year.
The police statistics also indicate that most roads linking to Beitbridge Border Post record the highest numbers of people killed.
Masvingo province recorded the highest number with 15 people killed in road accidents whilst Matabeleland South province which also has a road linking to South Africa recorded 11 deaths.
Manicaland province which has a road which links to Forbes Border Post recorded 9 deaths.
Harare province which is the capital recorded 10 deaths.
Mashonaland East province which has roads linking to Forbes Border Post and Nyamapanda Border Post recorded 10 deaths.
Mashonaland West and Matabeleland North recorded 5 each while Mashonaland Central has managed to contain road carnage and has recorded one death.
Human error has been agreed to be the major cause of road accidents while fatigue on the part of drivers due to long distances cannot be over ruled.
