4 people died in road accidents on Boxing Day bringing the death toll for the holiday season to 78.
The number of road accidents has this year increased, claiming more lives.
A total of 47 road accidents were recorded on Boxing Day up from 28 on the same day last year.
There was, however, a reduction in the number of deaths and injuries.
Police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi said the cumulative total for road accidents is higher this year with the police issuing 89 600 tickets for traffic offenses while 2 100 vehicles were impounded.
The festive season has become synonymous with a high rate of accidents as many people travel to visit friends and family in the rural homes and various destinations.
Meanwhile, the police have appealed to Harare residents to assist in the apprehension of criminals who are driving around in a Toyota Raum and a Toyota Hiace luring unsuspecting passengers and robbing them of their valuables.
The police urged travellers not to board private vehicles as they will expose themselves to robbers.
