Home Affairs Minister Kembo Mohadi seems to have survived a plot to arrest him over various charges orchestrated by a faction sympathetic to sacked Vice President Mujuru.

Police Commissioner General Augustine Chihuri reportedly compiled a dossier detailing Mohadi's alleged crimes ranging from grabbing white owned farms and businesses to corruption and submitted it to President Robert Mugabe in the run up to the Zanu PF congress held early December.

"The police wanted to get a a blessing from Mugabe to arrest Mohadi over the alleged crimes. Mugabe did not give the green light but only accepted the dossier," said a senior government official who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Mohadi, aligned to a faction led by recently appointed Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa was seen as a threat to former Zanu PF chairman Simon Khaya Moyo's bid for the second vice presidency.
"The Mujuru faction thought that by arresting Mohadi, they would clear the path for Khaya Moyo's elevation to the Vice Presidency. Mohadi was the only person seen as the real threat to the position," said the official.

"When the President stalled the move to arrest Mohadi, the plot by the Mujuru faction collapsed."

After the Zanu PF congress Mugabe appointed one of Zipra commanders  Phelekezela Mphoko as second Vice President while Mohadi was appointed secretary for State Security in the Zanu PF politburo.
