President Mugabe and his family have caught the ire of Zimbabweans following the leak of their pictures holidaying at an upmarket restaurant in Singapore.

Mugabe takes his annual leave in December and spends the holidays outside the country, mostly in the far east.

Mugabe travelled along with his wife Grace, daughter Bona, sons Robert Jnr and Chatunga, step son Russle Gorereza and son in law Simba Chikore.

Bulawayo resident Samson Ncube said it was disheartening to see Mugabe enjoying with his family after presiding over the fall of the country's economy.

"The Mugabe's actions is like putting salt on one's wound. They are busy enjoying when the rest of Zimbabweans are suffering. As we speak, companies have shut down because and people are suffering," Ncube said.

"Some employees failed to get bonuses and did not enjoy the Christmas holidays for the Mugabes to post pictures busy enjoying themselves."

Vegetable vendor Silibaziso Dube wondered the last time the President spent Christmas in the country.

"You journalists should actually check the last time Mugabe and his family spent Christmas at home. When Injiva come back home to spend Christmas with their loved ones, the President and his family leave the country," said Dube.

"What is wrong with our local resorts? Won't it save the country lots of money if the President spent his holidays in the country. I think it would even boost tourism because it would show that even the President has confidence in the local holiday resorts."

James Mutandwa, a barber chose to differ saying the President had the right to choose where he spends the holidays.

"Is he the only one who left the country for the holidays? When MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai earned the nickname 'legend of the seas' was he navigating our local Lake Chivero or foreign waters?

"There is nothing wrong with one choosing a holiday destination of their choice," he said.
