A 17-YEAR-OLD Form Four student at a school in Lower Gweru and his teenage brother last Friday appeared before the courts for allegedly assaulting a soldier at a bar following an argument after the juvenile had stepped the army officer on his foot.

Cephas Ntini from Plot 31 Budha, Lower Gweru, allegedly stepped on Marshal Moyo's foot before hitting him with fists after an argument.

His brother, Silas Ntini (19) intervened and knocked Moyo with a log on the head before the latter fell to the ground. Gweru magistrate Rutendo Muchena remanded the two brothers in custody to today after she had turned down Cephas's plea to be given bail saying he had holiday assignments to attend to.

Allegations are that on the Christmas Day last year and at around 5pm, Cephas approached Moyo, a solider based at 21 Infantry battalion in Mutoko, who was drinking beer at a bar in Lower Gweru. Cephas allegedly stepped on Moyo's foot and hit him with fists after a misunderstanding.

Silas intervened in the dispute and hit the complainant with a log. Moyo sustained head injuries and was ferried to a hospital in Gweru before a report was made to the police, leading to the arrest of the two.
