Chombo mired in poll rigging claims

Top Zanu-PF officials including party secretary for administration, Ignatius Chombo, have been sucked into an alleged central committee election rigging scandal that threatens to further divide the party.

The Daily News says it has in possession a letter addressed to President Robert Mugabe and written by war veterans, detailing how the political heavyweights in Masshonaland West allegedly flouted the ruling party's constitution and went on to handpick their preferred candidates for positions in the powerful central committee.

The letter undersigned by retired colonels Mhidza and Maesera fingers Chombo with war veterans in Kadoma claiming that no election was held to select central committee members in direct violation of the party constitution.
