ATTACKING his sister's boyfriend saw a Mutasa man being dragged to court facing assault charges.
Appearing before Mutare magistrate Mrs Annie Ndiraya, Joel Sakupwanya (26) of Chief Mutasa's area pleaded guilty to charges of assaulting his sister's boyfriend.
Mr Brian Goto prosecuted.
The court heard that on December 3, Sakupwanya attacked Mark Muguyo (19) who was going to collect his umbrella from his girlfriend who had borrowed it the previous day when it was showering.
Sakupwanya slapped Muguyo twice in the face before hitting him with fists in the stomach in the view of Muguyo's friend.
In his defence, Sakupwanya said he had assaulted him because he had the guts to approach his sister at his house.
"I admit that I am guilty, but my sister is too young. She is only 15 and in Form Two.
"He also had the guts to come to my house and demand $40 and umbrella back from my sister. It is not expected that a boyfriend visits his girlfriend at her brother's place especially when she is that young and demanding his things back.
"I attacked him because he had attacked my sister first, accusing her of being a thief," said Sakupwanya.
Mrs Ndiraya asked if Sakupwanya wanted to marry his own sister.
"Do you want to marry your sister? Or did you have the right to assault him because you don't want him to date your sister?" asked Mrs Ndiraya.
Before the court had delivered its judgment, Mr Goto interjected and said Muguyo wanted to withdrew the charges against Sakupwanya.
However, Mrs Ndiraya said it was too late to withdraw the charges because Sakupwanya had already been convicted.
She, however, cautioned and discharged him.
"If you ever appear before this court facing same or other charges within five years I will send you to prison without an option of paying a fine," said Mrs Ndiraya.
