Govt dismiss 'malicious and unwarranted' rumours on salaries

Government has reiterated its commitment to paying salaries for civil servants every month dispelling rumours that it was no longer able to do so.

In a statement yesterday, Civil Service Commission acting secretary Mr Clifford Matorera dismissed rumours circulating on social media, describing them as "malicious and unwarranted."

"The Civil Service Commission, as the Government employer hereby acknowledges the payment of bonuses made to date and the commitment of the Ministry of Finance in its press statement of the 8th of January 2015 on the same," he said.

"It further wishes to assure all government employees that Government remains committed to pay salaries monthly.

"It therefore wishes to dissociate itself from statements that are being peddled in the social media to the contrary. Such pronouncements are both malicious and unwarranted."

On Tuesday this week, Finance and Economic Development Minister Patrick Chinamasa said Government would pay outstanding bonuses starting with the health sector on January 14.

The rest of the civil service and grant-aided institutions were to expect their bonuses on January 23 and February 6, consecutively.

The Government has insisted it is fully committed to paying civil servants their pay and bonuses easing tension on its employees unnerved by speculation over pay.
