Zimbabwe has challenged the United Nations to confront the United States, United Kingdom and their allies and advise them that sanctions on Zimbabwe are illegal and must go as they are hindering the country to ratify the UN Security Council resolution 1540.
The issue of sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe took centre stage at the United Nations Security Council meeting, with calls for member states which have not yet ratified the UN resolution 1540 to do so as the deadline is now long over due.
However, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Justice and Legal Affairs, Mr. David Mangota told reporters in New York that Zimbabwe made its position clear that it has no problem in ratifying the resolution, but wants the UN to come out and openly declare that the embargo slapped on Zimbabwe by the west is illegal and should be lifted.
The UN Security Council resolution 1540 was crafted to deal with terrorism and disarmament of dangerous weapon of mass destruction and drugs.
Meanwhile, US based cadre, Cde Coltrane Chimurenga told reporters in New York that progressive black citizens in the USA have organised a one million anti-sanctions march to be held in Harlem in New York as the call to lift the illegal embargo imposed on Zimbabwe by the west intensifies.
The move by the US-based citizen to hold a one million anti-sanction campaign and the recent lobby by the Zimbabwean delegation to the United Nations for the Security Council to openly tell western countries that sanctions are illegal should send a clear message (to the west) that sanctions are evil and time has now come that they be lifted unconditionally.
