Acting President Emmerson Mnangagwa has tore into former Zanu PF secretary of administration Didymus Mutasa for dismissing as illegal the party's congress last December.

Mnangagwa was appointed Vice President by President Robert Mugabe after the congress following the sacking of Joice Mujuru.

Mujuru was accused of leading a faction plotting to topple Mugabe.

Mnangagwa said Mutasa was mad to claim that the the congress was led illegally.

"He is the one who sent invites to provinces calling them for the congress calling for their resolutions," Mnangagwa told a Midlands provincial meeting.

"He even sent an excuse that he won't attend the congress because he was not feeling well."

"He can't claim that the congress was illegal. It's total madness," said Mnangagwa.

He said no one should act like they were bigger than the party and any truancy would be punished by expulsion.

Speaking at the same meeting Zanu PF commissar Saviour Kasukuwere said they would not block moves by Mutasa's Manicaland home province to expel the former  minister.
