A DANGAMVURA woman was hauled before the courts facing charges of making a false rape case.
Appearing before Mutare magistrate Mrs Sekai Chiundura, Beatrice Nyariya (22) of House Number 8805, Nyamauru, Dangamvura, pleaded guilty to the charges she was facing. Mr Cuthbert Bosha prosecuted.
The court heard that on December 23, Nyariya, who is employed as a cook at Moto Moto, went to Dangamvura Police Station and made a report to the effect that she had been raped by her boyfriend, Richmond Zindoga (28).
He was then arrested.
The truth then came out when the matter was brought before the courts that Nyariya had lied against Zindoga. She was arrested for reporting a false rape case. It emerged that the two had consented to sleep together on November 28.
The two later had a misunderstanding after the act, resulting in Nyariya making a false rape report.
Asked why she did that, Nyariya said Zindoga had assaulted her and she wanted to fix him by making a false rape report against him.
Mrs Chiundura warned Nyariya that if she was assaulted she should have made an assault report and not to lie.
"If you are assaulted you do not go and report otherwise. Are you not ashamed that you have been arrested for lying?" said Mrs Chiundura.
She was sentenced to three months imprisonment or paying $150 fine.
