Technocrats to spearhead Zimbabwe's economic programmes

Government will embark on a new recruitment drive of young cadres with technical skills to spearhead national economic programmes, Acting President Emmerson Mnangagwa has said.
He said this while addressing mourners at the funeral of the Deputy Minister of Environment, Climate and Water, Simon Musanhu, in Harare last week.
He said the revolutionary Zanu-PF party was going to reward loyal and consistent cadres with technical skills by appointing them into influential positions to ensure cohesion and efficiency in the implementation of Government economic policies.
"Where we are going, we need to embrace a new approach to life," he said.
"We need young cadres who are educated and capable of negotiating with other developed nations. This is the new crop of cadres with technical skills who are very bright young people."
Mnangagwa paid tribute to the late Musanhu as one of the few cadres with the necessary technical skills needed in Government.
He said given Musanhu's technical skills, President Mugabe saw it fit to appoint him as a Deputy Minister in a technical ministry headed by Saviour Kasukuwere.
"When you see yourself being retained on your position, it shows that you are a loyal cadre who is unwavering and not to aspire for things that are not within your domain," he said.
Mnangagwa also said during the liberation war, most fighters felt duty-bound to revenge the deaths of their comrades by killing white Rhodesians at independence, but had to change tact in line with the national reconciliation policy espoused by the leadership.
He said Zanu-PF's command structure was a product of the liberation struggle and cadres needed to subordinate themselves to the leadership in order to ensure cohesion and unity of the party.
"Zviya zvataifunga kuti kana taakuzvitonga toda kudimbura musoro waSmith zvakabva zvapera (Esasikucabanga okokuthi sifuna ukuquma ikhanda lika Smith kwahle kwaphela)," he said.
"Tevera vakuru nokuti ndivo vanoziva gwara; ndivo vanoziva kuti kuyanana kwakanaka kukunda kurwisana (Landela abadala ngoba yibo abaziyo: yibo abazi ukuthi ukuhlalisana kuhle kudlula ukulwisana)."
Musanhu was buried at Glen Forest Memorial Park in Harare on Saturday.
