A Harare woman on Monday appeared at Mbare Magistrates' Courts facing charges of forging 239 signatures of city co-operative members, thereby obtaining a certificate of registration.
According to the state at an unknown date, the accused, Sikhumbuzo Munyawarara (45) of AF 90 block, Manyame Airbase, Harare at Retreat Farm, Waterfalls, used her capacity as the chairperson of Hilarious Housing Co-operative Society to forge signatures of 239 members by appending signatures in the by-laws booklet.
Munyawarara allegedly went to the Registrar of Co-operative Societies of Zimbabwe and produced documentation in which members' signatures had been allegedly forged, causing her to obtain a registration certificate.
According to the state, on October 7 2014, police received a tip off that the accused person had forged signatures of 239 members which she used in order to get a registration certificate.
Investigations then revealed that, indeed, the accused had misrepresented fact and used fake signatures to obtain the certificate of registration as required at law.
A certificate and by-laws booklet was obtained and will be produced as evidence in court.
Bianca Makwande, who is the presiding magistrate, postponed the matter to January 29 and remanded Munyawarara out of custody on $100 bail.
