The Dumiso Dabengwa led Zapu is preparing to mount a court challenge on President Robert Mugabe's proclamation of March 27 as the date for by elections in Mt Darwin West and Chirumhanzu-Zimbabngwe on the grounds that the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) does not have the legal mandate to register or update the voter's roll.

He said ZAPU is seeking an interdict to stop the by-elections until ZEC is in control of the voter registration process.

He said currently there is no law that explicitly identified the government institution that is responsible for management of the voters roll and voter registration.
