President Robert Mugabe, who is the SADC Chairman and incoming African Union Chairperson, has left Harare for Lusaka, Zambia where he has been invited to attend the inauguration of Zambia's new president on Saturday.
The Zambian presidential election were held on Tuesday the 20th and extended to Wednesday due to bad weather in some parts of the country.
The elections were held following the death of incumbent president Mr Michael Sata.
The new president will serve the remainder of Sata's five-year term until the next general elections scheduled for 2016.
The SADC council of non-governmental organisations has since endorsed Zambia's presidential election as credible.
The council noted that polling day was peaceful and people cast their votes without coercion, undue influence or intimidation.
President Mugabe, other leaders from across the globe and several dignitaries are expected to witness the inauguration.
The late President Sata was Zambia's 5th president and he died in London last October at the age of 77.
Four presidential candidates Edgar Lungu of the ruling Patriotic Front, Hakainde Hichilema of the United Party for National Development, Nevers Mumba of the Movement for Multiparty Democracy and Edith Nawakwi took part in the race.
President Mugabe is accompanied by Foreign Affairs Minister, Simbarashe Mumbengegwi.
