ASSAULTING police officers on duty earned a Nyanga man a six-month jail term.
Simbarashe Masandudzi (29) of Kanyuru Village under Chief Saunyama was sentenced by Nyanga provincial magistrate Mr Ignatio Mhene, who said his offence required a deterrent sentence.
The court heard that on August 29 at St Mary's Business Centre, Detective Constables Chiveso and Bizeki approached Masandudzi who was on the police wanted list in connection with domestic violence, contravening the Electoral Act where he had destroyed political posters and assaulting a police officer as well as resisting arrest and tried to arrest him.
The detectives explained to Masandudzi the charges he was facing, but denied all of them.
He was advised that he was under arrest, but he resisted.
Masandudzi started assaulting the two officers with fists several times. He went on to bite Dct Cst Bizeki's left cheek.
Mr Kusena of St Mary's Business Centre and his workers came to the rescue of the detectives.
Masandudzi was eventually arrested.
