Two MDC-T officials in Mhondoro-Ngezi have dumped their party and joined Zanu-PF accusing the Morgan Tsvangirai-led formation of false promises.

The crisis torn MDC-T formation continues to lose credibility, especially in rural areas.

In the latest episode, the party's Mhondoro-Ngezi organising secretary Prince Mukunyadze and Eden Zimhindo who contested the 2013 council elections on the MDC-T ticket dumped their party and joined Zanu-PF.

The two senior officials publicly denounced their MDC-T membership during a Zanu-PF meeting held at Zimhindo Secondary School in Mhondoro-Ngezi constituency.

They accused the MDC-T of lacking substance saying Zanu-PF has a better alternative of empowering individuals.

"I have been used for a long time by the MDC-T mobilising people for them but got nothing at the end of the day. I realised that the MDC-T was taking us for a ride and all we got were empty promises. I now want to work for myself," said Mukunyadze.

Welcoming the new members, legislator of the area Mike Gava called on the Zanu-PF supporters to embrace forgiveness and work together for development.

"We must work for the development of the party. Prince Mukunyadze is a builder, give him some work so that he can provide for his family, and let him leave the useless MDC-T," Gava said.

Another MDC-T party member who requested anonymity for fear of victimisation said more members from the Tsvangirai-led formation are now tired of false promises and are threatening to dump the party.

The MDC-T lost heavily to Zanu-PF in the July 31, 2013 elections and suffered a damaging split in March 2014.
