A MUTARE woman shocked the courts when she demanded $750 from her estranged husband who is employed as a bus driver. Ndaizivei Sithole told presiding magistrate Mrs Sharon Chipanga that her husband of 20 years, Marius Sithole, had abandoned her together with their children who are still in school. She said Sithole had relocated to Chisumbanje.

"It is now two years since he left us and he now stays in a beautiful house in Chisumbanje while I suffer with four children here in the city.

"He stopped paying their school fees and the arrears have risen to $600.

"The eldest child stopped going to school because of non-payment of fees and the second is in Form Four, but he has since been stopped from attending lessons until the outstanding arrears are cleared.

"He does not even know that rentals are supposed to be paid as well as water and electricity bills.

"I work as a librarian assistant and I receive very little salary.

"If I tell him that we need money for food he will send less than $10 through Eco-cash.

"He also operates a shop and he gets about $800 every month from that shop.

"He is in a position to pay the $750 I am asking for," said Ndaizivei.

In his defence, Sithole said life was hard for him and he was no longer working hence staying in Chisumbanje to fend for his family.

"I used to be a part-time driver and I would get about $200 every month, but now I am no longer working.

"She is lying that I earn $800 because I do not work.

"I also stay in a shack not a house as she is misrepresenting in this court.

"She started working two years ago and she knows that I have been providing for the family all along.

"It is only now that things are tight and she has forgotten all I was doing.

"I can only afford to pay $300 a month because I am hustling as a man, but it is difficult," said Sithole.

Mrs Chipanga ordered him to pay $360 every month with effect from January 31.
