The newly appointed African Union (AU) Chairperson, President Robert Mugabe is meeting with some senior staff at the AU headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Mugabe is expected to meet the AU Commission Chairperson, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma this afternoon before another meeting scheduled for tomorrow.

President Mugabe yesterday met his South Sudan counterpart, President Salva Kiir to deliberate on various issues, among them the unrest in Africa's newest country, South Sudan.

The election of President Mugabe as the new AU Chairperson has been hailed by many Africans as a return to the roots.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Simbarashe Mumbengegwi has described President Mugabe's ascendency to the highest seat of the continental body as the link between the current crop of leaders and the founding fathers.

Mugabe also got a further accolade on the continent by being the one to lay the foundation for Africa's 50-year development agenda 2063.
