A HARARE man, who was demanding US$330 maintenance per month from his estranged wife, who deserted him in February this year, has lost the case.

Caison Mukahanana of Glen Norah on Monday appeared before Harare magistrate Ms Vongai Muchuchuti, demanding maintenance from his ex-wife of two years, Mebo Mutandiwa.

Mukahanana who is unemployed, said he could not irk a normal life after she left him.

"She took her business with her and now I cannot pay my bills or even buy food for myself, I am going hungry," Mukahanana lamented.

He said when they were still living together, the woman ran a chicken business that racked in at least US$1 000 per month.

He said she has a kiosk at one of the tobacco auction floors in Harare. However, Mutandiwa dismissed the claims, saying she was actually in debt adding that she abandoned him because he was too lazy.

"Haashandi anogara akagara pamba achiba mari yangu (He doesn't work, he is always at home stealing my money)" Mutandiwa said.

Mukahanana appealed to the court that if Mutandiwa does not pay him maintenance, then the court should convince her to return to their matrimonial home arguing that this was the only way to solve his problems.

Ms Muchuchuti dismissed Mukahanana's claims on the grounds that he did not have evidence and that Mutandiwa was also having financial difficulties.
