Mugabe meets UNECA chief

The African Union (AU) Chairman, President Robert Mugabe today met the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), Dr Carlos Lopes at his office as at the AU headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Dr Lopes briefed Mugabe on the new dimensions to the drawing up of new sustainable development goals.
He said these new goals should include how the goals should be met in terms of funding and ensuring that the new development goals do not disadvantage Africa.
UNECA was formed together with the United Nations Social and Economic Development Council to promote the development of member states.
It is also has the task to foster international cooperation.
UNECA serves as the training arm of the UN which carries out research on trade, macro economic policy, gender issues and realise statistics for Africa.
