A CHTTUNGWIZA woman has taken her son-in law to court coercing him to look after his child following the death of her daughter.

Shupika Jambawo approached the courts seeking US$435 from her son-in law Victor Chiunga as maintenance for his child.

She said her daughter died in 2007 and she has been looking after the child as she works for the municipality.

She said her earnings have depreciated and wants Chiunga to contribute towards the upkeep of the child.

She said she had heard that Chiunga was now employed by a local bank.

Chiunga offered US$40 maintenance for the child saying he is a street photographer and earns US$90 monthly.

He said he is married and has two other children while he denied the bank job.

The court queried how he would survive on a US$50 budget with his wife and two other children asking him to reveal his other source of income.

He responded saying he stays with his mother and they live on rentals which they collect.

Jambawo said US$40 was not enough and asked him to increase the offer.

Chitungwiza Civil court magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa who presided over the matter ordered Chiunga to pay US$60 as maintenance for the child.
