Zambian President meets Mugabe

Zambian President Edgar Lungu has held talks with his Zimbabwean counterpart President Robert Mugabe.

Mr Lungu, who is on official leave in his country, was met at the  Harare International Airport Friday afternoon by Vice President Emerson Mnangagwa, Foreign Affairs

Minister Simbarashe Mumbengegwi, Tourism and Hospitality Minister Walter Mzembi and several government officials.

On arrival, Mr Lungu headed to the State House where he held closed door deliberations with the President.

Mr Lungu assumed the Zambian presidency last month replacing President Micheal Sata who died last year.

President Lungu said he came to exchange notes with Mugabe, as he is the most senior statesmen in the region.

The two discussed bilateral relations, regional integration and AU matters.

The two agreed also to enhance trade between the two countries.

Zambian Foreign Affairs Minister Harry Kalaba said President Lungu's visit to Zimbabwe is his first foreign visit since his recent election and inauguration.

President Lungu was accompanied by the Foreign Affairs Minister, Justice Minister Ngosa Simbiyakale and special advisors to the presidency, Amos Chanda and Kaizer Zulu.

Meanwhile, Mr Lungu has left for a presidential retreat in the Luangwa Valley in his country, where he is currently putting a final touch to his cabinet.
