A CHITUNGWIZA woman yesterday claimed in court that her HIV-positive husband had chased her away from home after she declined to have unprotected sex with him for fear of contracting the virus.

Susan Gwari approached the Chitungwiza Civil Courts yesterday where she was seeking a protection order from her husband Gift Kadenga.

She told magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa that after refusing to have unprotected sex on several occasions, Kadenga packed her clothes in a sack and dumped them at her parents' house.

"He is HIV positive and wants to have unprotected sex. Because I refused, he started insulting me whenever he wanted before he chased me away from home on January 19.

"I need to go back to my matrimonial home and take care of our child peacefully," she said.

She added that Kadenga regularly visited her workplace where he insulted her in front of her workmates.

However, Kadenga denied the claims and opposed her application, accusing his wife of lying under oath.

"Can she tell me when I was ever tested for HIV? She is the one who has a tendency of not sleeping at home," Kadenga said.

"She also does not dress properly so most of the times I will be telling her to stop it. I do not insult her and I do not have a problem if she comes back home," he said. The court granted Gwari the protection order.
