A 21-year-old Shurugwi rape suspect sent officials at the Gweru magistrate's court on Monday scampering for cover when he faked insanity during trial.
Trymore Chinhamo, who is a herdboy, is accused of raping his employer's three year old daughter.
He suddenly started hurling insults at the magistrate and prison officers midway through his trial.
He claimed to be seeing strange beings who he said were telling the magistrate to send him to jail.
At one point he charged towards the bench and was restrained by some prison officers.
Some of the officers fled in terror and the trial was postponed. Chinhamo was examined by psychiatrists who concluded he was faking and therefore fit to stand trial.
He was on Tuesday hauled back to court and was convicted of raping the three year old girl.
Chinhamo will be sentenced tomorrow (Thursday.) Regional magistrate, Morgan Nemadire warned Chinhamo against trivialising court proceedings.
Prosecuting, Ndamukanei Chikuni told the court that on an unknown date between in October last year Chinhamo sexually abused his employer's daughter at Sedza River in Mvuma where they had gone to fetch water.
The girl's grandmother noticed she was limping heavily on 17 October.
She questioned the girl and she revealed Chinhamo had raped her. She was taken to Mvuma Hospital for treatment.
The matter was reported to the police leading to the arrest of Chinhamo.
