Government has assured the nation that every cent of the revenue collected from the country's toll gates will be accounted for.
This follows allegations of abuse of funds which have rendered some Zinara executives jobless in the clean up process by the ministry.
Presenting a paper on the state of the transport system and infrastructure at the Zimbabwe Staff College, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Development, Dr Obert Mpofu said the road network is in a sorry state as maintenance has not been carried out for some time due to lack of funding.
The Minister allayed fears that the money collected from toll gates is abused insisting it will be put to good use as government has come up with strategies to improve accountability.
On the issue of the absence of road signs which some have cited as contributing to accidents, Minister Mpofu blamed it on vandalism.
Zinara collects between US$1.7 million and US$2 million from toll gate fees per month.
