A 35-YEAR-OLD man, who has been masquerading as a Herald Reporter, was taken to court accused of swindling his girlfriend's 69-year-old uncle.

In addition, John Gondongwe, who resides in Gondongwe Village under Chief Serima in Gutu, also took his girlfriend's 16-year-old relative and dumped her in Masvingo alter lying that he would get her a job.

Gondongwe appeared at the Harare magistrates' court facing two offences of duping Peter Meki of US$100 and 'kidnapping' the 16-year-old.

Circumstances leading to his arrest were that on December 30 last year, Gondongwe visited Meki at his house in Epworth.

It was alleged that he told Meki that he had access of buy fertilizer before taking him to Africa Unity Square garden in the city centre where he said he would collect the farming inputs.

Reports were that Meki paid Gondongwe US$100.

Allegations were that Gondongwe then disappeared leaving Meki in the Africa Unit Square garden.

Prosecutor Constance Ngombengombe said that Meki left his Epworth home in the company of the 16-year-old girl after she had been promised a job by Gondongwe.

It was said that Gondongwe told the girl that she was supposed to accompany him to Glen Norah where they were supposed to collect some documents to facilitate her employment.

The court heard that Gondongwe and the teenager disembarked from the kombi at Mbudzi round-about before boarding a haulage truck heading to Masvingo.

Reports were that the girl later phoned her mother whilst they were in Masvingo before she found her way back home.

A complaint was lodged with the police leading to his arrest.

Gondongwe returns to court on February 24 for trial.
