FORMER Vice-President Joice Mujuru has been accused of looting millions of dollars aimed at starting a telecommunications company for war veterans.
Newly appointed Minister of war veterans Christopher Mutsvangwa told scores of war veterans in Gweru yesterday that Mujuru gave some of the money to fugitive James Makamba who went on to and start a telecommunications company and Nigel Chanakira who opened Kingdom Bank.
Mutsvangwa said Mujuru looted the money from Zexcom, the war veterans v fund into which most members invested the $50 000 gratuities received in 1997.
Joice Mujuru looted funds from Zexcom, she used some war vets to steal the money. She channelled some of it to Makamba and Chanakira who started a bank and a telecommunications company at the expense of war veterans, said Mutsvangwa.
He said Mujuru fired him from his position as a director in the Transport and Telecommunications ministry because he started being vocal about the stolen money.
Mutsvangwa the government should follow up the stolen money and return it to war veterans, most of whom he said were living in abject poverty.
The accusations are the latest in a series by Zanu-PF stalwarts that have painted Mujuru as an extortionist, thief and liar.
The former VP has been accused of crimes ranging from plotting to assassinate President Mugabe to blocking the Presidents wife, Grace, from ascending to active politics
