Give depositors what they lost not $5

Government should award Zimbabwean dollar accounts depositors the equivalent of what they lost when the country changed to the multi-currency regime, the Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries said.

CZI has said when it welcomed the demonetization of the Zimdollar, the move was also long overdue but the $5 awarded by the central bank to depositors was too little.

Government has set aside $2o million towards the demonetization of long dead Zimdollar accounts, with a maximum once off payment of a paltry $5 per each account holder.

The CZI said the allocated payout was going to lead to more confidence issues on the part of depositors, while observing that bank charges in the country still remained on the high side.
