Befitting send off for Chapfika

BUSINESS came to a standstill in Chitungwiza on Friday when the dormitory town paraded the casket bearing the body of former FIFA referee and businessman Tkhaona Chapfika around the dormitory town.
Chapfika passed on last Thursday after succumbing to cancer of the colon. He was given a befitting send off by mourners who came to give their last respects.
The streets were congested with relatives and friends of Chapfika as well as mourners who had known him in sporting, business as well as political fields.
His casket was ferried from the mortuary to his house by the crowd who were singing and dancing to political songs as well as football songs.
Chapfika's first born son Kumbirai said he was humbled by the honour that his father received.
"We are four in our family and l am the first born. I used to know that my dad was a popular person but I didn't know he was as popular as l have seen today.
"All these people that have come have managed to comfort the Chapfika family in this time of bereavement and I really want to thank them.
"It is not easy to do things that my father used to do but as his eldest child I am willing to make sure his legacy doesn't die.
"I also want to make sure that my siblings will continue having the same standard of living that they were used to when my dad was still alive. I don't want anything to change," he said.
Meanwhile, Chapfika's body was laid to rest on Saturday at his rural home in Uzumba.
