The Ministry of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing is seeking expressions of interest from suitable designers who will be invited to submit proposals to undertake the designing of the Chiefs' regalia.
The Ministry says that the current regalia was inherited from the colonial regime and was designed to celebrate and venerate their own imperialistic values.
"The regalia is outdated and detached from our history, culture and traditions. It is therefore imperative to customize the chiefs regalia so that it speaks to our history, ethos, values and our aspirations as a people," said an advert in the State papers.
The current regalia for Chiefs' is composed of the following:
The gown - consists of purple and red colours. Red colour symbolizes judicial power and purple signifies royalty
Helmet - white in colour with court of arms. The helmet denotes the dignity and authority of the office of chief
Breastplate - (half moon) with court of arms. Symbolizes government authority bestowed upon a chief and recognition of the chiefs authority
Name badge - bears the chieftainship name and is for identification purposes.
Walking stick (Intonga - tsvimbo) with court of arms. It stands for the chiefs traditional authority as head of his or her community.
At this stage, the Ministry is requesting for expressions of interest from designers interested in becoming shortlisted to participate in the upcoming competitive procurement process. The designers must submit a written "Expression of Interest" in response to this advertisement via an introductory note on an official letterhead. The note should refer briefly to evidence demonstrating that designers have the capacity and are qualified to undertake the designing of the regalia and also showing evidence of similar work undertaken in the past.
Information provided will be reviewed to asses each Institution's suitability to be Included In the forth coming competitive Request for Proposal (RFP).
If your organization is Interested in participating in the planned pre-qualification exercise and meets the requirement with suitable experience, please reply to this EOI with reference: "Designing of the Chiefs' Regalia".
