Police in Harare and the Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe (TSCZ) have launched a joint operation code-named "Takuona" to flush out illegal driving schools which have mushroomed in and around the city.

In an interview with The Herald yesterday, TSCZ spokesperson Ernest Muchena said the operation would target unregistered driving schools and unregistered instructors.

Muchena said those found in contravention of the Statutory Instrument 309 of 1985 which requires driving schools to be registered will be fined or imprisoned for a period not exceeding six months.

He also said registered driving schools operating without registered instructors risk losing their operating licences.
