The Ministry of Health and Child Care says heads will roll at Mnene Mission Hospital after officials were fingered in the abuse of a US$700 000 government fund.

Health Minister Dr David Parirenyatwa has read the riot act on the hospital officials charged with abuse of office and fraud.

The hospital's administrator Zibusiso Moyo is jointly charged with two officials' Wilbert Madenga and Richard Dharara from the ministry's head office in Harare for siphoning US$700 000.

Due to the seriousness of their case, the trio have been referred to the Gweru regional court.

They have since been relieved of their duties by the ministry.

Hospital Matron Sister Danai Chauke who was initially fingered out in the scam has since been exonerated by the police investigations.

Some of the allegations levelled against the hospital officials include awarding a tender to supply medical equipment to a food distribution company, Food Miles Private Limited, which is based in Bulawayo.

They are also alleged to have paid for a non-functional x-ray machine and using the Ministry of Health and Child Care Permanent Secretary's date stamp to authorise the awarding of a tender worth US$180 000 which is over the permitted limit of US$50 000.

The matter came to light when Mberengwa North legislator, Tafanana Zhou toured the hospital and unearthed the scandal at the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Zimbabwe-run hospital.
