Man bashes cop with an axe

A HARARE man axed a police officer while resisting arrest after being caught cutting firewood at Muguti Farm in the outskirts of Harare.

It is alleged that on 4 February this year, two police officers, Trymore Goliath and Adonia Dhliwayo, got wind that Tawanda Simon Musara (32) from Waterfalls was illegally cutting firewood at the Farm in the company of one Kudzai Zhanje, who is still at large.

The police officers allegedly ordered the suspects to load the firewood into their truck and drive to Harare Central Police Station.

As they were along Charter Road, the court heard that Musara pulled out an axe which was under the firewood and struck Dhliwayo on the forehead with the axe as his co-accused also struck Goliath three times with a log

The suspects then jumped into their car and fled, however, they later got involved in an accident at Dunota Farm in Beatrice and fled, leaving their vehicle behind. Musara was arrested in Glen Norah on February 18.
