Husband murderer remanded in custody

The woman who allegedly killed her husband in a gruesome murder which has left Chitungwiza residents in a state of shock has been remanded in custody.

The woman identified as Fortunate Nsoro (36) has been remanded in custody to March 13 by the magistrates' court in Chitungwiza.

The body of Petros Mutasa (55) was found in blood.

He had died most probably of bleeding from multiple stab wounds inflicted by knives, in a crime that left the community shell shocked.

The crime scene resembles those from horror movie sets.

And so is the storyline.

His wife, Fortunate Nsoro is accused of the murder.

She has been arrested and remanded in custody to March 13 as investigations into the murder case continue.

Zimbabweans are worried about what appears to be an upsurge in crimes of passion that lead to death.

Section 48 of the constitution of Zimbabwe provides that every person has the right to life, it further states that the law may permit the imposition of the death sentence on people who commit murder in aggravating circumstances and it categorically stipulates that the death penalty must not be imposed on women.

Is this provision now being abused by women?

This year a Gwanda woman, Evelyne Ndlovu is alleged to have struck her husband, Rhodes Maphosa with an axe after the husband allegedly refused to be intimate with her.

She was given a free bail by a Bulawayo magistrate.

Zimbabwe seems to have comprehensive laws that deal with issues of domestic violence and murder but the recent developments call for consented efforts from all stakeholders to curb such crimes.
