A 25-YEAR-OLD Masvingo Teachers' College female student was allegedly killed in cold blood by unknown assailants while going to a church service, police have confirmed.
The lifeless body of Zvikomborero Chingarandi of Chipato Plot, Morningside, was found lying in the bush near Masvingo Teachers' College along a footpath with a deep wound on the left ear and bruises on the left leg.
Masvingo police spokesperson Inspector Charity Mazula said the incident happened on Tuesday at around 3pm.
She said the body was taken to Masvingo General Hospital mortuary for postmorterm and the suspects were still at large.
"I can confirm receiving the report to that effect. We have since identified the deceased but the suspects are still at large. The body was discovered three days after she went missing and we strongly suspect Chingarandi was murdered," said Insp Mazula.
On Saturday at around 10am, Chingarandi left home to attend a church service at an Apostolic sect shrine in a bush near Hillside high density suburb and did not return.
"When Chingarandi failed to return the same day, her friend whom she stayed with, Ms Shingirirai Mutasa (32), assumed that she had gone for studies at the college. On Tuesday, Ms Mutasa then went to college where upon arrival she checked if her friend had come but discovered she had not reported," said police.
At around 3pm, a fellow student Ms Clara Mangoma (25) of Masvingo Teachers' College quarters, discovered black female shoes which she suspected to be Chingarandi's and alerted a security guard, Mr Morgan Murombo.
A search party led by Mr Murombo was conducted leading to the discovery of Chingirandi's body near the bush.
She said police were alerted and attended the scene after which the body was taken to the hospital mortuary for postmorterm.
