The delegation comprising Minister of State in Vice President Joice Mujuru's office, Dr Sylvester Nguni, Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Walter Mzembi, Economic Planning and Investment Promotion Minister, Mr. Tapiwa Mashakada, Zimbabwe Tourism Authority chief executive, Mr. Karikoga Kaseke, several senior government officials, representatives from the Zimbabwe Investment Authority and private and public company representatives is in Brasilia on a tourism, trade and investment promotion mission.
This Thursday part of the delegation held closed door meetings with Brazil National Confederation of Industry operations director, Mr. Carlos Eduardo Abijaodi and head of the trade and tourism division in the Ministry of External Affairs, Mr. Flavio Marcillo Sapha.
Addressing members of the media after the closed door meetings, Dr Nguni said the legal framework for cooperation between Zimbabwe and Brazil is already in place under the auspices of the technical cooperation and joint permanent commission agreement that was signed by the two governments in 2006.
He said the visit to Brazil is expected to open doors for Zimbabwe business people as well as cement the implementation matrix of the first session of the Zimbabwe-Brazil Joint Commission that was held in 2009.
Minister Nguni also said Zimbabwe has a lot to learn from Brazil which also went through a hyperinflationary period in the 90´s to the extent that the country took measures that were similar to dollarisation.
He said Brazil was categorised as a developing economy very recently, but has since emerged to become one of the fastest growing economies globally.
Mujuru is expected to join the delegation in Brazil on Saturday where she will officially open the Zimbabwe Trade Promotion Office in Sao Paulo.
Mujuru is then expected to visit an ethanol plant called Centre for Sugarcane Technology which is located in the same city.
She will then proceed to the capital Brasilia where she will hold a high level meeting with the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Brazil, Mr. Michael Temer among other meetings.
Besides unlocking trade opportunities that exist in areas such as agriculture, tourism, mining and infrastructure development, the visit to Brazil by the Zimbabwean delegation will enhance south to south cooperation, which also puts emphasis on social, political and cultural benefits.
Brazil like other emerging economies such as China and India among others have stood by Zimbabwe in the face of the onslaught by western countries and has continued to assist Zimbabwe in various sectors.
The ZTA is expected to launch the tourism brand code named 'Zimbabwe - a world of wonders.' The brand launch serves as a platform for telling the true and well detailed story of Zimbabwe.
