Minister of Agriculture, Mechanisation and Irrigation Development, Dr Joseph Made said the government is prepared to ensure that the national herd is restored and protected. Made also said the govt is working towards equipping the police with transport to effectively deal with cases of cattle rustling.
Made said all this during the handover ceremony of 100 motor bikes by his Ministry to the Zimbabwe Republic Police at Morris Depot in Harare.
Dr Made said the motor bikes are aimed at boosting the operational efficiency of the police in curbing stock theft.
After receiving the motor bikes, ZRP Commissioner General Augustine Chihuri gave commitment that the police will increase the anti-stock theft unit's efficiency in efforts to effectively deal with stock theft.
The motor bikes will be distributed to all the country's rural districts where cases of stock theft are rampant.
This year the country has already recorded 5 508 cases of cattle theft. Police managed to recover 1809 cattle.
