Rusape Town Council is moving with speed to repossess its house from disgraced former Zanu-PF secretary for administration Didymus Mutasa that he used his once execesive power to get.
The town councillors have come hard on the management to immediately implement the resolution they passed in January and reaffirmed it in February full council meetings that the council should repossess its No. 4 Mbuya Nehanda Mansion.
In a decision that is likely to infuriate many Rusape residents and Zanu-PF members, councill management has resolved to sell to Mutasa the house that he was illegally occupying instead of repossessing it. The council is intending to engage an independent valuer to ascertain the true value of the property and offer it to Mutasa.
This has been viewed as a way of frantically attempting to protect Mutasa by some members of the council management. This has left those with the know-how of what is going on behind the scenes asking, why the council is intending to sell the house to Mutasa if he was holding it illegally?
Some Rusape senior managers were hand-picked and given posts by the beleaguered Mutasa and they would from time to time pay visits at Mutasa's house popularly known as "paGomo" during weekends. The resolution to repossess the house from their master has proved to be a thorn in flesh for them.
Pinned by councillors during the February full council meeting, acting Rusape secretay Mr Lawrence Mushayabasa said council is keen to repossess its house but they are studying the political environment.
"We are going to engage an independent valuer to get the correct value of the house and if he declines the offer council will then take it back but if he accepts the price we will sell it to him.
"Council is not afraid but we are moving with due diligence given the delicacy of the matter. We are studying the political environment but we will implement the resolution, said Mushayabasa.
Ward 10 councillor Chabanzura Goto in whose ward the house is located urged management to move with speed and make sure council repossesses its house from Mutasa.
"The resolution we passed is there and we want you to move with speed. The council is very right on this resolution do not be intimidated, so please implement it without fail.
Ward 5 councillor Mr Lyton Sithole said the council should evict Mutasa immediately without fear or favour since they have the legal mandate to do so.
"Is the management afraid of Mutasa? This is a very clear issue. Mutasa was illegally occupying a council house and the same council has passed a resolution to repossess it. There is no complexities here. When we meet again management must update us on progress made.
