Grace Mugabe hails Mahofa's appointment

The First Lady Grace Mugabe has sent a congratulatory message to newly-appointed Minister of State for Masvingo Provincial Affairs Shuvai Mahofa, saying her rise was good for the advancement of women.
The message was delivered by Senate president Edna Madzongwe at a welcome party attended by thousands of people at Chishamiso Stadium in Hippo Valley on Saturday.
The party was organised by the Cross Border Traders Association led by Killer Zivhu and attended by members of the Women's League national executive, Government and party officials, members of the association and the public.
Madzongwe said Amai Mugabe, who is also the secretary for Women's Affairs in Zanu-PF, was keen to see development taking place in Masvingo.
"I was sent to this function by our mother to congratulate Mai Mahofa," said Madzongwe.
"She told me to tell Mai Mahofa that the President trusts her and that she will carry out the burden of development in Masvingo without being involved in issues such as corruption.
"The First Lady said as leader of women in Zimbabwe, she wishes all women in Masvingo well. The First Lady does not want corruption. She wants people to love each other. Dr Mugabe is concerned about the underprivileged. Do not hesitate to speak to Mai Mahofa so that she conveys your message to the First Lady. "
Madzongwe said she would brief Amai Mugabe on some of the problems being faced by women in Masvingo and grievances raised by cross border traders.
Mahofa said she was grateful to President Mugabe for trusting her and that her office doors would be open to everyone in the province.
"My office is already working on correcting a number of anomalies that we have picked up in land allocations," she said.
"There has been some illegal allocations of land and chiefs have been denied land. We have given land to all the 42 chiefs in the province and some 138 people who have been holding offer letters for the last three years have been allocated land. People in Chingwizi will be moved to Chiumburu Farm in Chiredzi where they will be allocated five hectares per each family."
Mahofa said she would ensure that more houses were delivered in the province while working with organisations like the Zimbabwe Amalgamated Housing Association, which would get land to build a suburb named after the First Lady.
Zivhu said as cross border traders they saw it fit to celebrate Mahofa's achievement as the first woman to represent Masvingo as the provincial minister.
"We want farms to build houses and we will enter into deals to provide funds for cross border traders," he said.
"Mai Mahofa has been our patron as cross border traders for many years. We want to help her achieve whatever she tells people in the province."
