A BULAWAYO man yesterday dragged his wife to the Civil Court seeking to dissolve their marriage because her frequent trips to South Africa have wrecked their marriage.
Goodfriday Mpofu told magistrate Singandu Jele that he had resorted to sleeping in his car as his wife Natasha Hungwe was abusive.
He said Hungwe would go to South Africa for long periods extending up to eight months, but never bothered to tell him what she would be doing in the neighbouring country.
Mpofu and Hungwe reside at Sigola Primary School and have been married for eight years.
Mpofu said he ended up being granted custody of the couple's two children by the Magistrates Court at Esigodini because of Hungwe's prolonged absence from the matrimonial home.
He said: "Since the beginning of our marriage there's been no peace at home because she is violent. I sought a protection order against her at the Magistrate's Court in Esigodini".
Mpofu added that Hungwe's actions had driven him to abandon the matrimonial bedroom and sleep in a car.
"Your Worship, she doesn't respect me. She steals our business money, insults me in front of our children and even goes to the extent of harassing our store workers," he said
"I request that she finds alternative accommodation until the matter is finalised," Mpofu said.
However, Hungwe told the court that Mpofu was lying, adding she had no alternative accommodation.
The couple later asked for time to settle their issue out of court
The magistrate ordered Hungwe to find another place to stay until the matter is finalised.
