Court challenge to block expulsion of 21 MPs

The Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) Renewal Team says it will file a challenge with the Constitutional Court on Thursday against the expulsion of its legislators from parliament.

House Speaker Jacob Mudenda granted a request by the MDC-T on Tuesday to recall all 21 lawmakers who had broken ranks with the party.

Renewal spokesman Jacob Mafume told VOA Studio 7 they are confident of victory.

One of the expelled lawmakers, Albert Mhlanga, said while he is disappointed, his resolve to continue pressing for democracy could not be stronger.
